Wind governs the assembly. Most of the state sits in elevated design wind speed territory, and coastal parishes carry the highest. What fails in a wind event is almost never the field of the roof — it's the perimeter, the corners, and the edge metal. Once the edge lifts, the membrane peels and the building is open. That makes edge metal engineering and attachment schedule the first design decisions on the project, not the last.


Water never fully leaves. Sustained humidity, heavy rain events, and slow-drying conditions mean any moisture that gets into an assembly stays there. Drainage design has to actually move water off the roof, and a roof holding standing water for days is a roof with a finite and short remaining life. It also means core cuts matter more here than anywhere: a membrane can look serviceable while the insulation underneath is saturated.


Organic growth and coastal exposure accelerate everything. Salt air near the coast, biological growth inland, and a maintenance interval that has to be shorter than what the same building would need in North Texas.

What We Do In Louisiana

During construction, the client receives regular reports documenting progress, completed work, weather conditions, and any issues requiring attention.

In this climate a membrane can look entirely serviceable while the insulation beneath it is saturated, and once moisture is in the assembly it doesn't dry out — it spreads laterally, degrades R-value, corrodes the deck, and eventually shows up as a leak nowhere near where the water entered. A moisture survey and core cuts tell you how much of the roof is actually wet. That answer usually changes the project, and it's much cheaper to have before you budget than after.

Repeated edge-metal failure may be caused by inadequate fastening, improper attachment spacing, deteriorated substrates, or an edge system that was not designed for the building’s wind exposure. Because wind pressure is concentrated along roof edges and corners, these components require careful design and secure attachment. AVID inspects the edge metal, cleats, fasteners, membrane termination, and underlying structure before recommending corrective work.
